CRAZE

Craze is an Australian comic company founded during the time of COVID-19 in 2021. However, the very beginning came around the time I gave up on myself and my creativity.​​​

Throughout my life I was creative. In 1996, I got to work in a small studio creating characters. In 1997-1999 I studied Fine Arts, in 2010 studied IT Multimedia and in 2012-2014 I gained a Bachelor's degree in animation.

In 2017 or roughly around then, I gave up on my creativity. After all my studies and trying to fine my way into a career using my artist talents, nothing eventuated. I got to be involved in small productions, but nothing that gave good recognition.

I was burnt out and I couldn't draw anything.

 

Every time I went to pick up a pencil, I felt a disguised for it. So one day during 2017 or roughly around that time, I did pick up a pencil and I put it straight back down and I told my God straight, 'I give up and I don't want my creativity anymore.'

​

The next day, I had an encouragement from God with a slight warning:

 

"Ben? If you don't put your creativity and imagination into practice, you will regret it."

 

I pondered on those words. Just to add, my faith is in Jesus Christ and that is my belief.

 

So taking the Lord's advice, I decided to try again using my creativity. I reignited my interest for comics, art and storytelling.

 

It is from God's encouragement to me that Craze was born.

CRAZE COMIC STRUCTURE

​Craze comics will not follow the ways of a traditional comic, but will still use panels, words for sound effects and speech ballons to communicate. Craze comics will be structured differently.

​​

The aim is to be original and different. To keep the reader engaged in the story using

1 to 3 images per page and not be distracted by a crowded page of panels, gutters, words and speech ballons etc. 

​

All comics have a basic structure: Images. Words. Story

​

Craze comics will have that basic structure. To be different even further, the page turn/transition has been structured to play a part of the reader experience. Each image should lead the reader to the next image with the thought, 'What happens next?' So the last panel before the page turn is an important moment.

 

To read Craze comics is to simply go from top to bottom.

​

If the reader is on a two page spread, go from top to bottom on left page, then move across to the top of the right page, read top to bottom on right page, then turn the page. 

​

The structure of Craze comics may have the reader finish the comic quickly, but at the end of the book it is all about the story.
